HANSON REMAINS WITH UNITED AUTOSPORTS FOR WEC LMP2 TITLE DEFENCE

Hanson remains with United Autosports for WEC LMP2 title defence

Phil Hanson remains with United Autosports for the defence of his FIA World Endurance LMP2 Championship title in 2021. The Briton will again have Filipe Albuquerque (POR) sharing the cockpit but with new team-mate Fabio Scherer (CH) joining the duo.

Phil joined United Autosports in 2018, making his debut at the Rolex 24 At Daytona alongside Fernando Alonso and Lando Norris. Since then he has entered six championships with the British team consisting of 33 races, including three Le Mans 24 Hours and has won three championship titles scoring 20 podiums including 11 wins.

At only 21-years-old, Phil won the FIA WEC LMP2 Championship, the ELMS Championship outright and Le Mans 24 Hours LMP2 class honours this year – the first time this feat has ever been achieved.

The six-race 2021 WEC begins in March at Sebring (USA) before visiting Spa-Francorchamps (BEL), Le Mans (FRA), Monza (ITA), Fuji (JAP) and Bahrain (BAH).

Phil says: “Returning to United Autosports was always the plan for next year given the success we have had together this year, winning both the WEC and ELMS championships and of course Le Mans. It sets the bar very high for 2021, but I have confidence in the team and I am excited to start working with Filipe again and welcoming our new team mate Fabio as well.”
